Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh first returned his prestigious award in support of farmers agitating on the road. After that many intellectuals and sportspersons also talked about returning the award in support of the farmers. Now the agricultural scientist also supported the farmers and refused to receive the award from the Union Minister. Soil scientist Varindra Pal Singh of Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana has refused to accept the award in the hands of the Union Minister. In fact, in view of his excellent works, the Fertilisers Association of India had promised to honor him with the Golden Jubilee Award. After this, he was invited to receive the award on stage in a ceremony on Monday.
After going on stage, Virender Pal Singh, Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister D.V. Thanked Sadanand Gowda and the Association. As the Union Minister was about to give him the award, he refused to accept the award with great decency. He also apologized after refusing the award.
The agricultural scientist said that ‘my conscience does not allow me to take this award. I think if I take this award at this time, I will be guilty. ‘ Virender Pal Singh then wrote to the Union Minister that ‘at this time the country is going through a calamity when the farmers are agitating on the road with their legitimate demands … and the government is not demanding their withdrawal of the anti-national law She is agreeing.
Virender Pal Singh has also written a separate letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In it, he has written that ‘My conscience does not allow me to get an award from any government official because the Government of India is giving undue pain to the farmers who are demonstrating peacefully. He further wrote that ‘the way the government is trying to break the farmers and the discipline under which the farmers are demonstrating it is a history. It is not in the national interest to leave Indians on the road during the winter and not to accept their legitimate demands.
Virendra Pal Singh is counted among the big agricultural scientists. He has developed a special technique through which farmers can increase their yield by minimally using urea in the fields. His research has saved Rs 750 crore in Punjab alone.
He has stated the new agricultural laws against the farmers. He has said that this law will be dangerous for the socio-economic structure of the country. He has made it clear that ‘instead of getting any kind of cash award or gold medal, I think it is appropriate to stand with the farmers in the situation at the moment.’
