Regarding which the government has told the officials that all government employees should not use WhatsApp, Telegram, or other social media apps to share confidential information.

According to news agency IANS, the government has said that the servers of these apps are owned by private companies across the world and the information can be misused by anti-India forces. Said that during the Work From Home (WFH) period, the officers should connect through e-office application only. This order of the government also applies to Amazon Alexa, Apple HomePod, Google Meet, Zoom, etc.

This order of the government has been given after analyzing the flaws in the existing system on WhatsApp, Telegram, and other social media apps. The Center has taken on advice given by intelligence agencies resulting in frequent violations of national communication norms and government directives to avoid leaks of secret information. The government has directed all ministries to take “immediate steps” to prevent such breaches and to strictly enforce communication security policies and guidelines while dealing with sensitive or restricted communications.
