When Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced to go to Mumbai and make Film City in his state, there was a flood of political rhetoric. The controversy started to increase with the announcement itself. Some were praising it, while some were telling it a conspiracy to take Bollywood to UP. Former Chief Minister of the state Akhilesh Yadav even said that this proposed film city, which is expecting a multi-colored and big mental horizon, will never grow under today’s monolithic and narrow-minded power. The Maharashtra government expressed doubts that it was a conspiracy to take Bollywood to UP. Despite this announcement, it has certainly opened new doors of possibilities in the state.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced in Mumbai to make Film City and said that he was going to do something new. He will give world-class facilities to the filmgoers. He said that by making films, his government wants to culturally develop the surrounding provinces and regions. This film city will create an open competitive environment. His government has started a program to make a grand film city with an investment of about five thousand crores after taking care of fifty years. He has also invited everyone from Bollywood to Hollywood to shoot films.

Yogi met filmmakers

Encouraged by Film City, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came to Mumbai and met 50 film people in particular and invited him to come to UP to shoot films. Yogi first met Akshay Kumar and if the news is to be believed, then Akshay Kumar took advantage of the opportunity and decided to shoot his new film ‘Ram Sethu’ in 2021 in UP. Yogis met Paresh Rawal, Madhur Bhandarkar, Prakash Jha, Udit Narayan, Anupam Kher, Nitin Desai, Kailash Kher Anoop Jalota Satish Kaushik, etc. According to the news, John Abraham and Bhushan Kumar met the Chief Minister in Lucknow after which Yogi thought that Yogi was planning to drag Bollywood veterans to UP.

Controversy started

When the Yogi government announced the making of Film City in UP, Kangana Ranaut, Raju Shrivastab and many BJP leaders came forward to welcome it. Bhojpuri actor and leader Ravi Kishan said that Film City was his old dream in UP. Now the youth of Bihar will be able to work with respect and self-respect. BJP leader Mohsin Raza even said that the Maharashtra government is putting pressure on the makers of Mumbai not to go out shooting somewhere. Maharashtra Congress called it a conspiracy to shift Mumbai’s film business to UP. It was written in Saamana that Yogi should check the rising crime of the state first. Commenting strongly, the newspaper said, “Will he make Film City in Mirzapur.” A Shiv Sena leader said that we have made a film city blood sweat one by one. It is not so easy for Yogi Sarkar to take Bollywood to UP.

How much attraction film city has

Will UP’s CityCity be able to influence Bollywood? Will Mumbai producers go to UP to shoot films? Will Mumbai’s film city be affected by this? The same can be said about this that the proposed FilmCity in UP will definitely revolutionize the film industry. This will be beneficial for producers of films made in the North Indian background. Many Hindi films have been shot from Lucknow to Bihar.

For example, Abhinav Sinha’s ‘Mulk’, ‘Article 15’, ‘Slap’, ‘Batla House’, ‘Indu Ki Jawani’ was shot in Lucknow. The films are shot according to their stories. The producer-director decides the location according to the subject. It is not possible to shoot a film based on Kerala’s background in UP. The second thing is that nowadays producers of Hindi films are shooting in many countries of the world. It is not easy to get him ready to shoot his film in UP or any film city of the country. The reason is that many countries of the world have given facilities and concessions to their manufacturers.

Modern film City, proposed at a cost of thousands of crores proposed in UP, is unlikely to have any bad impact on Mumbai Film City or Bollywood. Yes, it will definitely increase the facilities and employment opportunities for the filmmakers and artists of the state. UP invests 150 to 200 crores in film production every year. The Yogi government has given a grant of 21 crores to about 38 films since 2017.

The modern Film City of UP will create an atmosphere of open competition in the entertainment business of the country….
