He has been appointed as Observer in Helicopter Stream. ‘Wings’ have been awarded for being a graduate as an Observer at a ceremony held at INS Garuda in Kochi.
The entry of women was still banned
Let me tell you that till now the Ladies Officers were not deployed for long time in terms of privacy on warships and there is also no washroom available for women. But now after the arrival of these two women officers, now there is a possibility of change. And it is also a matter of fact that many women officers have been deployed in the Indian Navy. Commander Vivek Madhwal, the spokesperson of the Indian Navy, has said that the entry of women in the warship was banned.
Two women observers selected from a team of 17 officers
Sub-Lieutenant Kumudini Tyagi and Sub-Lieutenant Riti Singh are in the team of 17 officers of the Indian Navy, including 4 women officers and three Indian Coast Guard. The two sub-lieutenants who were part of the team, appointed as Observers, were also trained in air navigation, flying procedures, tricks used during aerial warfare, avionic systems in addition to anti-submarine warfare. The entire team was awarded ‘Wings’ when they graduated as ‘Observers’ at the INS Garuda ceremony in Kochi.
Both the young women officers, Sub-Lieutenant Kumudini Tyagi and Sub-Lieutenant are undergoing training to operate the sensors engaged in the Navy’s multi-role helicopters. These officers will fly in the new MH-60R helicopters of the Navy. Sub-Lieutenant Kumudini Tyagi and Sub-Lieutenant Riti Singh have been deployed as a crew on a naval warship as part of a move to prove gender equity in the Indian Navy. Will be the first female officer.
In addition, Chief Guest awarded ‘Instructor Batch’ to 6 more officers. Of these, five are from the Indian Navy and one is from the Indian Coast Guard. In this ceremony, Chief Staff Officer (Training) Rear Admiral Anthony George honored all the officers. He said that this is a special occasion when for the first time women are to be deployed on warships after being trained in helicopter operation.
