Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi has been declared a banned immigrant in Dominica. The Dominican government on Thursday declared diamond merchant Mehul Choksi as an illegal migrant in his country. Based on media reports, an order has been issued by Dominica’s Ministry of National Security and Home Affairs on 25 May. In which it said that as per the Immigration and Passport Act of 2017 amended laws of Dominica directing the removal of Mehul Choksi from the ‘Commonwealth of Dominica’ stating that you are declared an immigrant.
According to sources, the documents were presented to the court by the Dominican authorities. In that appealed to the court that Mehul Choksi’s petitions should be dismissed and sent to India. The notice sent by the government of Dominica refutes the claim of Mehul Choksi’s lawyer Vijay Agarwal. In which it was stated that his client was not a restricted immigrant and was abducted.
This is the whole matter
An arrest warrant has been issued against Mehul Choksi in the Punjab National Bank fraud case. He was allegedly involved in stock market manipulation in 2013. Choksi fled the country after committing fraud in the public sector lender Punjab National Bank. He was later declared a fugitive.
In a charge sheet filed last year, the ED had claimed that Choksi not only defrauded Indian banks but also customers and lenders in Dubai and the United States. His assets worth ₹2,500 crores have already been attached.
Let us inform that on May 23, Choksi went missing from Antigua and Barbuda under mysterious circumstances. After which he was arrested by the police for illegally entering Dominica. After which his lawyer Vijay Aggarwal claimed that the stories going on about his escape are completely wrong. He has been kidnapped.
