Team India has started preparations to win the Test series against Australia. The last Test of the four-match series is to be played at the Gaba Stadium in Brisbane from 15 January. In view of this, Team India started practice from Tuesday. Right now the series is on par with 1-1. The third match was a draw i.e. the team that won the Gabba Test would take the series. An injured Jasprit Bumrah was also seen in the practice session. The Indian team, which is struggling with injury problems, can field in the fourth Test with five batsmen, a wicketkeeper, an all-rounder, and 4 bowlers.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared pictures of the practice on social media. The BCCI wrote in the caption of the photographs, ‘Team India showed a great game in Sydney. The team now unitedly came down to practice on the field. Now preparations started for the last match on the field of Gaba (Brisbane). ‘ Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was out of the final Test due to a strain in his stomach muscle in the third Test in Sydney, is still with the Indian team for the training session. However, Bumrah was not dressed as he practiced. He was in discussion with bowling coach Bharat Arun. Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Captain Ajinkya Rahane, and others were spotted with their training kit.
Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav was seen bowling in the net. It is expected that he can be picked for the match, as all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will not play due to fracture in the thumb. Fast bowler Shardul Thakur and all-rounder Washington Sundar were also part of the practice session. T Natarajan or Shardul are expected to replace Bumrah in the playing XI in Gaba. This will speed up the pace attack with Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini.
Head coach Ravi Shastri was with the players during practice and also interacted with the players of the team. He was also seen talking with his teammates of support staff which included batting coach Vikram Rathore and fielding coach R Sridhar besides Arun. The Indian team continues to suffer injuries on the tour of Australia. Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were ruled out due to injuries even before the start of the Test series.
Mohammed Shami also missed the rest of the series due to an arm injury in the first Test while Umesh Yadav was ruled out of the final two Tests due to a hamstring injury to the calf. Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari managed to draw India to Sydney despite pain and their participation in the final match is also not certain. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant hit a 97-run knock in Sydney but could not keep the wicket-keeping due to an injury in the first innings.
