Google Meet New Features: Google is merging its two video-calling platforms Google Meet and Google DUO. Google says that this can improve the user experience of Google Meet users.
Earlier this year, the company rolled out a major update to Google Meet, adding new features like scheduling and joining meetings, virtual backgrounds, in-meeting captions, and YouTube and Spotify integration. Now months later, the company has released another update for Google Meet.
Everyone in a meeting room will fit in different windows
Google said meeting hosts can now assign conference rooms to breakout rooms when using Google Meet hardware devices. This will ensure that everyone in the meeting, whether they are joining the meeting remotely or in the office, can be set in separate windows.
Google said that this feature will be available for Google Workspace Essentials, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Education Plus customers starting October 24.
The company also said that meeting attendees will be enabled by default for the meeting host after joining from the meeting room.
Transcribe a lecture to a Google Doc file during a call
In Google Meet, Google Meet offers the ability to transcribe video meetings into a Google Doc file. Google said in a blog post that the transcribed file is saved in the ‘Meet Recordings’ folder hosted in Google Drive, which is similar to a meeting recording.
The company also said that at present this feature can be accessed only when using Google Meet on a desktop or laptop. Google said that at present these transcriptions are available only in English.
As far as availability is concerned, Google said that for meetings with less than or equal to 200 invoiced people, the meeting host, and co-host will receive a link to the transcription documents via email after the meeting is over.
This feature will be on by default and can be configured at the group, domain, or OU level. Google will begin rolling it out to Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and Teaching and Learning Upgrade customers from October 24.
