When Lata Mangeshkar refused to go to Pakistan, met friend Noor Jahan on the border

Lata Mangeshkar is one of those famous personalities of India who made the whole world crazy with her skills. Today Swara Kokila Lata Mangeshkar may not be among us but her stories and the magic of her voice remain intact even today. It is not a wonder that many people have many types of memories about whose singing journey has been going on for almost 7 decades.

In this episode today we tell you that once it happened when Lata had come to meet her friend Noor Jahan and she refused to go to Pakistan.

Noor Jahan was separated from Lata Mangeshkar in Partition: When Swara Kokila Lata Mangeshkar started singing in films, she was very much influenced by Noor Jahan. Noor Jahan also appreciated Lata Ji singing and also helped her to move forward. Noor Jahan was also one of the people whom Lata didi used to give a special place in her life. During the Indo-Pak partition, Lata-Noor Jahan got separated from each other. While Lata Mangeshkar got the status of Swar Nightingale in India, Noor Jahan got the name of Mallika-e-Tarannum in Pakistan.

Lata Mangeshkar had refused to go to Pakistan: According to the book Scars of 1947: Real Partition Stories, Lata Ji once reached the border of Pakistan to meet her friend Noor Jahan. Since Lata Ji did not have a visa or passport, she refused to go to Pakistan. When Lata talked to Noor Jahan, it was decided that Noor Jahan should come on the border only. No Man’s Land was chosen for the meeting of the two. From there Noor Jahan came with her husband and from here Lata.

Food is eaten at the border: Lata Mangeshkar was very fond of food. Both loved to have delicious food with each other. Noor Jahan had made biryani and Lata ji wanted to eat that biryani. But it was not possible to exchange any goods from the border. But on the request of Lata Ji and Noor Jahan, both reached No Man’s Land located on the Wagah border and both ate biryani.
