Have you ever thought of the fact that why India got independence at midnight? Why power was transferred between 14 August and 15 August midnight.
According to Astrologers, 15 August was not an auspicious day for India that is why it was decided that the transfer of power was to be done at midnight between 14 and 15 August.
It was decided because according to the English calendar the day starts after midnight but according to Hindu Panchang the day starts after sunrise. That is why at midnight the power was transferred and the acknowledgment speech was given.
Why 15 August 1947 was the date selected…
Indian Independence Act was passed by the British Parliament in 1947, Lord Mountbatten, the Viceroy at that time decided the date for the transfer of power as 15 August.
The reason behind this was that on 15 August 1945 Japanese forces surrendered before him in World war II that is why he considered that day as the lucky day for him and declared that the power will be transferred on 15 August 1947.
In the British Parliament, it was decided that the power would be transferred on June 30, 1948, But due to partition of India & Pakistan riots began in the whole nation.
Mass murder started, Peoples were looted, Women’s crime increased in the country. If they would have waited till 30 June 1948 the whole country would be burnt by the people.
It became a very tough & difficult decision for Lord Mountbatten to handle. As the nation was burning in the fire of riots. That was the reason he wanted to transfer the powers as early as possible and gave the date of 15 August 1947.
That was the exact reason India got its independence on 15 August 1947, otherwise, we would have to wait for another year in June 1948.
That is the fact behind the independence of India on 15th August in 1947 at midnight. India is celebrating 74th Independence Day this year & step forward for the 75th year.
